Legacies of Exera: Session 0

Our story begins in the Kingdom of Rilos.  The Kingdom of Rilos is a symbol of freedom and justice beyond the borders of Wostrela and is also known for its wines, education, and arts.

The Kingdom of Rilos was developed around the City of Rilos approximately 500 years ago by King Lorin I, a descendent of the founder of the City of Rilos, also named Rilos.  Rilos has been a symbol for freedom and justice since its founding.  It has been involved in many wars over the years not only to defend its own borders, but to defend others from tyranny and evil.

Rilos remains under the rule of the Lorindel Dynasty.  Currently Rilos is ruled by King Lalor and his wife, Queen Consort Li.  While a prince, Lalor Lorindel went on many adventures, one of which led to the alliance between the Kingdom of Rilos and the Jia Empire of Zheng in Meihua.  King Lalor depends on former adventuring companions to help him defend his borders and advise him, including elven General Serac Relaren of Maemyth Quor, half-elven General Bowmarc Greenhill, Archmage Tomar Zoltan, and Ipsissimus Xarax, a bronze dragon.

And here we meet our heroes...

Prince Claren Lorindel (Fighter), fourth son of King Lalor and his wife Queen Li, was not content with a life of royal obligations and duty to the Kingdom of Rilos.  He was drawn to the stories his mother told him of her distant homeland, Zheng, and its primary God, Jian.  Though he had not seen his uncle,  Jia Bei, since he was a child, Claren was drawn to the idea of traveling to the Grand Temple of Jian, to learn from his uncle and become a Jian Warrior.  The Grand Temple was in the distant city of Zhengjing, the capital of the Jia Empire of Zheng, thousands of miles from Rilos.

King Lalor was disappointed that his son planned to abandon their ancestral God Delin and shirk his royal responsibilities at home in order to travel across the world and become a champion for the foreign god, Jian.  However, Lalor knew that his son would not be safe in these journeys alone, so he set his old companions out to recruit intrepid fledgling adventurers to accompany the young prince on his travels.  Between Tomar Zoltan, Xarax, Bowmarc, Serac, and their zsadri psionicist friend, Jastari Shadowform, they recruited Harl Smith, a human paladin; Gareth Carver, a dwarf psionicist; A'anri, a drow blood hunter; Enama Smoothmoon, a leonin monk; and Helestrina Silveranth, a eladrin sorcerer.

Harl Smith (Warlock/Paladin) was born and raised in the Hollarian Empire in the City of Hammarburg, the son of a smith.  While he grew up learning the trade, he sought more.  He sought adventure and justice.  After training with the sword, he proved himself to the Vikings of Hammarburg, a vigilante group in service to the old Skandian gods.  He took up his sword in the name of his goddess, Freyja.

A member of the Vikings, Harl traveled on occasion to capture bounties.  While he was away on one such expedition, his fiancee, Galadriel, was accidentally killed during a robbery by a thug named Liam Ehman.  Upon returning and finding Galadriel had been murdered, Harl investigated her death and discovered the identity of her killer.  He then went to this low-life's home to seek vengeance.  However, Harl was surprised to find the home occupied not only by Liam, but his wife and young teenage son.  Given the surprise encounter, Harl killed them all.  When this was discovered, the Vikings banished him from the City of Hammarburg.

Harl gave up his sword, swearing to never take up a sword again until he was able to redeem himself.  His father fashioned him a spear, which he took with him on his travels.  His travels took him to the dwarven Kingdom of Lil Tohir, where he befriended the King, Dagrun Fieryfury, and his people.  Prior to being hired to escort Prince Claren, he had taken on a position as a guard of the Rilosian College of Magic.

Gareth Carver (Psionist) was a wild dwarf born and raised in the Old Oak Woods just outside of the City of Rilos.  Son of notable dwarven warriors, Gareth was not quite as strong as most of his clan.  His latent psionic abilities began manifesting as he grew up and sought training to learn how to use them.  However. None in his clan understood them.  He was ridiculed by his clan for his lack of physical strength.

Gareth's clan did not tolerate strangers coming into their wood and one day they captured a traveling band of musicians, José and the Pussycats.  Gareth Carver spent as much time as he could with them learning as much as he could of the outside world.  One night, he freed them and joined them on the rest of their tour, learning to play music and sing.

Gareth Carver traveled with José and the Pussycats, ultimately ending up in the Kingdom of Wynland's capital city, Lanercost.  There while playing with the troupe, he met a human psionicist, Alred Doggins.  Alred took Gareth in as a student.  However, Gareth found it difficult managing his financial affairs in Lanercost, and eventually made his way back to Rilos, where he took up busking prior to being hired to escort Prince Claren Lorindel.

A'anri (Witch Hunter) was a drow, or dark elf, from the underdark city of Sheerviat.  His name at birth was Nadal Dhalmass of the Dhalmass family.  Growing up as a subservient male in a city ruled by the goddess Lolth's female zealots, Nadal was taken as an acolyte of Lolth.  This meant he was essentially a slave to the clerics of Lolth.  He grew tired of this life and took advantage of an opportunity to escape the City of Sheerviat when a knowledgeable high elf, A'anri Shanala, was captured.

Nadal Dhalmass helped A'anri Shanala escape.  However, hunted by drow of the City of Sheerviat, A'anri, the high elf, was killed.  Nadal Dhalmass, however, survived and escaped into the Floral Woods outside of the City of Rilos.  He took the name of the dead high elf who helped him escape, renaming himself A'anri.  He was found by a tribe of zsadrin, or shadow elves, who were living inside the Floral Woods.  There he joined a small band of blood hunters in the community.  He was given a mysterious crossbow, Shadowgrumble, by Jastari Shadowform, one of the zsadri blood hunters, before he was hired to escort Prince Claren Lorindel.

Enama Smoothmoon (Monk) was a leonin from the aṣ-ṣaḥrā' al-kubrá in Tell Rarra on the continent of Imris.  When she was young, she was separated from her family while she was playing near an oasis.  Her family was out hunting.  They never returned and she never discovered what happened to them.

Enama wandered in the desert until she found herself near death. She was saved and taken in by an elderly human monk from the Zhihao Empire of Yang on the continent of Meihua, Quan Yin.  She was raised by Quan Yin and he taught her the ways of his monastery.  She was especially good with the fighting arts taught to her by her master, Quan Yin.

Enama began competing in competitive fighting as an athlete and decided, against the guidance of Quan Yin, to travel to the continent or Wostrella to compete in their athletic fighting competitions.  She found herself competing in the City of Rilos when she was hired to escort Prince Claren Lorindel.

Helestina Silveranth (Sorcerer) was an eladrin born and raised in the wealthy city, the Elven Kingdom of Maemyth Quor.  She was born to a very wealthy noble family.  Born with natural magical abilities, Helestina began studying the arcane arts, becoming a sorceress.  However, she was never satisfied with the life that she was born into.  The pomp and pageantry of her wealthy society was tedious for her and she wanted to find herself by leaving it all behind.

Helestina set out on an adventure to find herself and her own way in life.  She eventually found herself in the City of Rilos, where she was discovered by General Serac Relaren, himself a transplant from Maemyth Quor.  It was he who recruited her to escort Prince Claren Loridindel.

Stephonocles (Bard) spent a good amount of his life entertaining the masses but due to his well, Orcness he spent most of the time entertaining the various Orc tribes across the lands. This was until some of his lyrical content deeply offended one of the Orc Chiefs that caused Stephoncles to be ran out of the tribal lands chased by a war party. This event is what led Stephonocles to cross paths with the rest of the party.

Vladimir (Rogue) is a Leonin that Stephonocles met and bonded with throughout Stephoncles early travels. Not much is currently known about Vladimir's past or how he became a stalwart companion of Stephonocles.
